Richard O. is Colorado's very first top prize winner in the Lucky for Life game and he wasted no time in claiming his prize first thing Monday morning. He won $1,000 a day for life in Friday's drawing, and decided to take the lump sum option of $5,750,000.
He bought the ticket at the Green Parrot Lounge in Florence. Richard and his wife own the bar, and they love playing Lottery games in their free time. He's been playing the Colorado Lottery since we began in 1983. Winning numbers from Friday night were: 8-24-36-39-45 Lucky Ball: 6 and Richard matched all six to win the top prize.
The couple came into work on Saturday and the bar manager half-jokingly asked them if they won. Our Lottery Investigation team had informed the manager there was a big winning ticket sold at that location. The couple looked at each other, wondering how many Lucky for Life tickets they sold Friday night and they decided to check their own numbers immediately.
Richard and his wife have been married for 53 years. They will be looking to buy a new home that is a single-level house since his wife suffers from multiple sclerosis. He said they love everything about Colorado and have been attending the State Fair on their anniversary every year they've been married except for one year when he was serving in the military.
