Colorado Lottery Announces Largest Mega Millions Jackpot Ever and Record Weekly Sales

Denver, CO, December 28, 2010 - The Colorado Lottery game Mega Millions is reaching new heights this holiday week. The game?s top prize has now grown to $200 million for tonight?s drawing. This will be by far the largest Mega Millions jackpot since Colorado joined the game in May of 2010. The winning ticket will be worth an estimated $127.3 million in cash. If tonight?s jackpot is not won, the new jackpot will be at a colossal $237 million with an estimated $150.8 million in cash value.

For the first time in Colorado Lottery?s history, Scratch ticket sales for the week have surpassed the $8 million mark coming in at more than $8.4 million. The previous high was $7.7 when the Lottery?s first $20 game was launched in November of 2007.

Scratch sales are up for the year as well. The Lottery reports that sales are up approximately $3 million from where they were last year at this time.

The Lottery also celebrated one of its best weeks for Jackpot games in the current fiscal year. Jackpot games sales were over $4.2 million, with the Millionaire Raffle helping the cause by adding almost $1million in sales. This, coupled with the large Mega Millions jackpot, the Lottery expects Jackpot games sales this week to surpass last week?s sales.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery?s games ? Lotto, Powerball, Cash 5, Scratch, MatchPlay and Mega Millions stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. The Lottery has returned more than $2.2 billion to the state of Colorado since it was established. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
