Powerball and Mega Millions Jackpots Rising to New Levels


DENVER, October 26th, 2010 – Since no one hit the Powerball jackpot in Saturday’s drawing, the jackpot is now up to $72 million. The cash value of the $72 million jackpot is just over $39.9  million.

The last time the Powerball jackpot was hit on October 6, 2010, a very lucky Florida player won the $61 million jackpot.  The largest Powerball jackpot ever on record was a $365 million dollar jackpot won in Nebraska in December of 2006!  Powerball drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at approximately 8:59 p.m. 

The Powerball game isn’t the only Colorado Lottery Jackpot game on a heater. The Mega Millions jackpot is now at a whopping $118 million.  Mega Millions is Colorado Lottery’s newest multi-state Jackpot game and is played in 41 states, Washington D.C. and the Virgin Islands.  Mega Millions is $1 per play, players select 5 out of 56 numbers, and selects 1 out of 46 for the Mega Ball number.  The jackpot starts at $12 million and continues to grow until there’s a winner. Mega Million drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at approximately 9:00 p.m.  The largest jackpot in Mega Million’s history went to two residents in Georgia and New Jersey and was $390 million.  And just like Powerball, proceeds from the sale of Mega Millions tickets stay in Colorado.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games – Lotto, Powerball, Cash 5, Scratch, MatchPlay and Mega Millions stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. The Lottery has returned more than $2.2 billion to the state of Colorado since it was established. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
