Splitting your Scratch prize?

If you decide to “split” the prize, one person is designated as the prize recipient, signs the winning Scratch ticket, and distributes the money. All prize winners complete IRS Tax Form 5754 that will dictate how to split certain gambling winnings. If you decide to “split” the prize, you’ll need to provide the names, addresses, social security numbers, and the gross amount to be distributed to each person.

Come prepared.

Complete the Colorado Lottery Prize Claim Form. Bring a photo I.D. and your Social Security number, if you have one. Acceptable identification includes: driver’s license, passport, military I.D. card, green card – or any form of government-issued identification with photo.

Before claiming a large prize, it’s always a good idea to seek financial advice.
