Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets Get into Lottery Game

DENVER  –  The Colorado Lottery is introducing a new series of Scratch tickets that should score big with sports fans. On January 5th, the Lottery will start selling tickets featuring six different Colorado Avalanche players, including veteran star Joe Sakic. A month later, Denver Nuggets-themed tickets will hit shelves, emblazoned with images of the team’s popular mascot, Rocky. The $2 Scratch tickets give players a chance to win a $20,000 top prize.

“We’re excited about offering tickets featuring professional athletes for the first time,” said Scratch Product Manager Todd Greco. “We really believe these may become collector’s items in local sports circles.”

To win, players will scratch off either hockey sticks or basketball hoops, hoping the numbers hidden behind those symbols will match one of the “winning numbers” buried underneath two dollars signs or two basketballs. In addition to the $20,000 top prize, players are also eligible to participate in second chance drawings for team merchandise gift packs or three grand prizes consisting of tickets to an away game, airfare, a $300 meal allowance and $1,000 in spending money. Information on the drawings can be found under the second chance drawing area of the Lottery’s Web site (www.coloradolottery.com), starting Jan. 5th.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games – Scratch, Lotto, Cash 5, and Powerball - stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. Now celebrating its 25th year, the Lottery has returned more $2 billion to the state of Colorado since its creation. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
