It's official! Colorado will soon open a new state park.

The Crazy French Ranch property near Trinidad, including the iconic Fishers Peak, will become Colorado's next state park. On September 12, Gov. Jared Polis issued an executive order, and the Lottery's proceeds partners are already hard at work making plans to open the 19,200-acre property to the public by fall 2020.

Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) contributed a $7.5 million grant to the acquisition of the iconic property and Colorado Parks and Wildlife committed an additional $7 million for the project. Acquisition of the land, which became official in February 2019, is the result of a unique partnership between the City of Trinidad, The Nature Conservancy, and The Trust for Public Land. The property had been held in private ownership for more than 100 years.
