Town of Milliken to receive Starburst Award for Hillsboro Skate Park.
DENVER – The Town of Milliken will receive a Colorado Lottery Starburst Award for using Lottery proceeds to update the Hillsboro Skate Park. A $314,000 Lottery-funded grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) was used to create a park for residents to enhance their skills on skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and bikes.
The award will be presented on Saturday, August 11 at the town’s annual Beef and Bean Day held at Lola Park.
The previous Hillsboro Skate Park was outdated and beyond repair. As a heavily-used amenity of the town, the new park was built on the same site with additional land acquired to give the skate park addition more room.
“The design of the new park was completed by a coalition of local middle and high school students in conjunction with a professional skate park design and building company,” said Pepper McClenahan, town planner for the Town of Milliken. “Hillsboro Skate Park has been very well received by the community. We surveyed locals throughout the design process to assess their needs and create a space the community feels ownership and pride in.”
The Colorado Lottery Starburst Awards recognize excellence in the use of Lottery proceeds in outdoor recreation and conservation that enhance a community’s environment.
