Woodland Park project rises to the top after 15,330 votes.
The votes are in! Coloradans selected Avenger Open Space in Woodland Park as the winner of the 2026 Colorado Lottery People’s Choice Starburst Award. The project received 1,929 votes during the month-long competition, which drew 15,330 votes—about 2,500 more than last year.
The City of Woodland Park used a $523,250 Great Outdoors Colorado grant funded by Colorado Lottery proceeds to purchase and protect the 120-acre property. The city worked with Palmer Land Conservancy, the Teller Trail Team, GOCO, and community donors and volunteers to bring the project to life.
Avenger Open Space protects wildlife habitat and public recreation access while creating a more sustainable trail system that connects to neighboring Paradise Open Space.
