DENVER - Most of us can use a little extra cash around the holidays. For Steve Miller, 45, of Thornton, that little extra cash turned into more than a million dollars. That’s because he was the only person to match all six numbers in the $1.9 million Lotto drawing held on Wednesday, December 8th. The winning combination was 3-16-28-36-41-42.
“I’ve played Lotto off and on since it began,” said Miller. “However, recently I’ve been more consistent. I have been feeling lucky lately so I buy 10 Quick Pick tickets every week. It was just a feeling I had, and I’m glad I followed my instincts.”
The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven store at 3901 E. 112th in Thornton. Miller chose the Annuity Option and received his first check for $48,434 ($34,389 after tax withholding). The final payment in 2028 will be worth $115,853 ($82,256).
“I’m a pretty simple guy,” said Miller. “You always dream about what you would do if you win. Now that I have, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I’m a native of Colorado and have always wanted to go to Hawaii. Now that I have some extra cash, sitting on the beach for a while during the long winter months sounds kind of nice.”
In addition to a possible trip to the tropics, Miller, who owns an automotive repair shop in Thorton, says he would like to spend some of his winnings paying back his parents for all the support they have given him over the years. He also says he will continue to work, and keep his life as normal as possible.
