DENVER, January 8, 2013 – This spring, the Colorado Lottery will introduce a new Jackpot game named “Pick 3.” Playing Pick 3 is as easy as 1-2-3! Players simply pick three numbers from zero to nine or they can ask the clerk for a Quick Pick. Three-digit lottery games are a mainstay in many parts of the U.S. Today, 38 lotteries across the country offer a three-digit game similar to Pick 3. In many states, including Texas, the Pick 3 game is the top selling Jackpot game, even over huge Jackpot games like Mega Millions. Over the years, the Colorado Lottery has received thousands of inquiries about when it would be launching a Pick 3 game.

“We want to keep our product portfolio fresh and add a long-term, sustainable Jackpot game that will be profitable and complement our existing portfolio of Jackpot games – Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto and Cash 5,” said Abel J. Tapia, director of the Colorado Lottery. “We believe that Pick 3 is the perfect addition and that once our players try it they will love it.”

Tickets will cost 50 cents or $1 (depending on bet type). Drawings will occur every night at 7:36 p.m. The prizes range from $30 to $500. Players can win up to $250 on a 50 cent wager or up to $500 on a $1 wager. The odds based on bet type range from 1 in 1,000 down to 1 in 100.

The game will be launched with two play slips – an EZ Play slip and a Complete Play slip. The EZ play slip is intended to help beginning players learn how to play the game – and does not include the “front pair” or “back pair” play type.

Players can choose two bet types – either “exact order” or “any order” for 50 cents – or they can play both exact and any order for $1. There is also the option of playing $1 per bet type to double the prize. For example a player can choose the exact order bet type for $1 to win a $500 prize as opposed to the $250 prize for the 50 cent exact order bet. With exact order a player selects three numbers and if they match all three numbers in the exact order they are drawn then they win (one way to win). With the any order bet type a player selects three different numbers and if they match all three numbers in any order then they win (six ways to win) or they can select three numbers with two numbers being the same and if they match the numbers in any order they win (three ways to win). With front pair or back pair a player only selects two numbers – the first two or last two numbers of three digits and if those two numbers are drawn then they win (10 ways to win).
