Meet Colorado's First Powerball Winners!
PUEBLO – The SEEP Financial Group claimed Colorado’s $20 million Powerball jackpot today on behalf of two local families. The two families went in together on a ticket for the October 10 drawing, picked their own numbers, and came out winners. The winning numbers for the October 10 drawing were: 12, 16, 31, 33, 54 and the Powerball was 5. The numbers were a combination of special dates and lucky numbers.
The winners are legal immigrants from Germany, but are originally from Poland. They have been in the Denver Metro area since 2002.
“We’ve been playing the same numbers every week the whole time,” a member of the group said through a translator.
The winners elected to take the Anuity Option, worth $20 million over the next 29 years. Their first check will be for $365,602. The winners said they plan to “stay cool,” travel some, maybe buy a house some day. But, mostly they want to absorb their incredible good fortune and make smart decisions.
The Safeway at 8543 Church Ranch Blvd. in Westminster sold the winning ticket. The store earned a $50,000 selling bonus, which Safeway will donate to a charity or non-profit in the Westminster area.
Colorado has been a member of Powerball since 2001, but this was Colorado’s first Powerball jackpot win.
This ranks as the third largest jackpot given away in Colorado, behind Lotto jackpots of $27 million in 1992 and $21 million in 2000.
Lottery proceeds are distributed to three primary beneficiaries: Great Outdoors Colorado, Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks. These organizations then provide grants and direct funding for parks, recreation, open space acquisition, trails, wildlife and conservation education.
