Check with your local retailer to see if they’ll award you your prize, or visit and claim at any of our four Lottery Claim Centers, or mail your signed winning ticket to Colorado Lottery, PO BOX 7, Pueblo, CO 81002. Allow one week for processing, and a check will be mailed to you.
Scratch Game Winners of $599 or More
Claim at a Colorado Lottery Claim Center. Complete the Colorado Lottery Prize Claim Form and bring a photo I.D. with you. You’ll be asked to provide your social security number. Or you can opt to mail your signed winning ticket to Colorado Lottery, PO BOX 7, Pueblo, CO 81002 along with your Colorado Lottery Prize Claim Form. Fill out the form completely and sign it. Allow one week for processing, and a check will be mailed to you. Incomplete forms may result in a delay.
Splitting your Scratch prize?If you decide to “split” the prize, one person is designated as the prize recipient, signs the winning Scratch ticket, and distributes the money. All prize winners complete IRS Tax Form 5754 that will dictate how to split certain gambling winnings. If you decide to “split” the prize, you’ll need to provide the names, addresses, social security numbers, and the gross amount to be distributed to each person.
Come prepared.Complete the Colorado Lottery Prize Claim Form. Bring a photo I.D. and your Social Security number, if you have one. Acceptable identification includes: driver’s license, passport, military I.D. card, green card – or any form of government-issued identification with photo.
Before claiming a large prize, it’s always a good idea to seek financial advice.
What you can expect when you win a big Scratch prize.As part of the Open Records Act, we are required to release to the public your name, hometown, amount you won and the game you played. This information will be posted on coloradolottery.com and will be furnished to the media upon request.
You may be interviewed by the Colorado Lottery Media Relations team and a press release will be distributed to local media outlets. You may also be asked to participate in a press conference to answer questions directly from reporters. Our Media Relations team will work closely with you to ensure your comfort with the process.
You’ll be asked to have your picture taken which will appear on our “Wall of Winners” and on our website.
Think You're a Winner?
Double check your ticket, or take it to a Colorado Lottery retialer and have them scan it to make sure that it's a winner. The terminal will announce a winning message when your ticket is a winner.
Sign the back of your ticket to protect you against loss or theft. Only one signature will be accepted.
Your prize must be claimed within 180 days from when the game end date is announced. Check your game in the Scratch section and look for the last day to claim date.
Complete a Colorado Lottery Claim Form before claiming prizes of $599 or more.
Deductions to Prizes $5,001+
29 percent will be withheld from your prize for taxes (25% federal; 4% state) if you provide us with your social security number.
34 percent will be withheld from your prize for taxes (30% federal; 4% state) if you do not provide us with a social security number.
If you have outstanding payments due to the Department of Human Services or Department of Justice, these will be deducted.
