POWERBALL JACKPOT SWELLS TO $320 MILLION

DENVER, August 15, 2012– The jackpot for Wednesday night's multi-state Powerball drawing has been increased from $305 million to $320 million! The winning ticket will be worth an estimated $213.3 million in cash. The jackpot increase immediately launched tonight’s drawing to be the fourth largest Powerball jackpot ever. This is the highest Powerball jackpot since last February, when the jackpot was $336.4 million. This jackpot has been rolling since June 16. The largest Powerball jackpot ever recorded was $365 million won six years ago in Lincoln, NE.

Since the new Powerball game started with its first draw on January 18, 2012, the new game has created 236 American millionaires (of $1 million and $2 million prizes) and has awarded seven jackpots ranging from $60 million to $336 million.

If there is no grand prize winner in tonight’s drawing, the estimate for next Saturday’s Powerball drawing (August 18, 2012) will be greater than $400,000,000 – the largest Powerball jackpot ever.

Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:59 p.m. MST. Powerball is a multi-state game with a starting jackpot of $40 million and other prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million. To play, consumers choose five numbers from 1 to 59 and one Powerball number from 1 to 35. Players that match five numbers and the Powerball win the jackpot. Players can also opt to spend an extra $1 for a Power Play option, which gives players a chance to win $2 million on the match 5 prize and increases the lower-tier prize amounts.
