The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition used Lottery funds to acquire the land rights for the Rio Grande Farm Park.

The farmable land was purchased early 2016 with support from a $254,000 Lottery-funded open space grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO).

Nestled along the Rio Grande River, the Rio Grande Farm Park provides a unique learning experience for the people of Alamosa. San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition supports new farmers with up to an acre of land and teaches best practices for soil health, harvesting and water conservation. The farm also offers stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and local wildlife.

The Colorado Lottery Starburst Community Awards recognize excellence in the use of Lottery proceeds in community projects implemented to enhance a community’s environment.
