New Year's Fortune

DENVER - The New Year rang in new riches for a man from Englewood.  Alejandro Sandoval collected the jackpot for the December 10th Lotto drawing at the Lottery’s Denver office.  Sandoval was the only person to match all six numbers in the $1.1 million drawing.  The winning numbers were: 3-11-17-21-27-35.

"I always knew I was going to win the Lottery," said Sandoval. "When I lived in Mexico, I was pretty lucky playing the Lottery. Since I moved to Colorado a few years ago, I’ve made it a point to buy a couple of tickets for each drawing. I’ve known it was just a matter of time before my numbers came up."

Sandoval purchased the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 4601 S. Broadway in Englewood. He chose the Cash Option and received a check for $584,599 ($415,067 after tax withholdings).

"I tried not to get too excited about winning," said Sandoval. "My family and I kept checking the ticket to see if it was a winner. Even though the numbers kept matching the numbers drawn, we weren’t going to count our chickens until the money is in the bank."

Sandoval used his own number combination to win the jackpot. He told Lottery officials he would use the same numbers for each drawing but would change the combination every now and then. The Sandovals say they will use the money to pay off their house and save the rest for the future.

Lottery officials said the Lotto jackpot will be worth $2.7 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.
