Mega Millions Fever in Full Effect for Colorado Lottery

Denver, CO, January 4, 2011 –The Mega Millions jackpot has now grown to an estimated $355 million for tonight’s drawing. The cutoff time for players to purchase their Mega Millions ticket for the drawing is tonight at 7:30 p.m. This will be the largest Mega Millions jackpot since Colorado joined the game in May of 2010. The winning ticket will be worth an estimated $224.2 million in cash.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $390 million in 2007. The prize was shared by two players in Georgia and New Jersey. The game, which expanded last year under a cross-selling agreement with Powerball, is available in 41 states and the District of Columbia.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games – Lotto, Powerball, Cash 5, Scratch, MatchPlay and Mega Millions stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. The Lottery has returned more than $2.2 billion to the state of Colorado since it was established. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
