DENVER – The $9.1 million Lotto jackpot up for grabs for Saturday could buy 13,000 top-of-the line iPads or 27 Rolls Royce Phantoms.  The last time the jackpot was over $9 million was September 2008. The cash value of the $9.1 million jackpot is $4.5 million.

The rising Lotto jackpot has generated plenty of excitement among consumers. While weekly Lotto sales have averaged $794,000 for the current fiscal year, last week’s sales totaled more than $1 million. For the last eight weeks, Lotto sales have averaged $945,000.

The Lotto jackpot hasn’t been hit since Feb. 27, 2010, when a Denver resident won a $6.7 million jackpot. Saturday’s drawing will be the 34th drawing in the current jackpot run.

Lotto drawings are held Wednesdays and Saturdays at approximately 7:35 p.m.  The probability of winning the jackpot is one in 5,245,786.  The winning numbers are selected using an automated drawing machine, which randomly generates the winning numbers.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games – Lotto, Powerball, Cash 5, Scratch, MatchPlay and Mega Millions stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. The Lottery has returned more than $2.2 billion to the state of Colorado since it was established. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
