$1 MILLION POWERBALL TICKET SOLD IN THORNTON
DENVER - One lucky ticket sold in Thornton won $1 million in Saturday’s Powerball drawing. The ticket holder earned the $1 million prize by matching five numbers and choosing the Power Play option for an extra $1. Players who match five numbers in the Powerball drawing usually win a $200,000 prize, but selecting the Power Play option multiplies their winnings by five.
The lucky ticket was sold at Deno’s Country Store, 4000 E. 100th Ave., Thornton. The store will receive a $3,000 bonus for selling the $1 million winning ticket. The ticket holder, who has not yet come forward to claim his or her prize, has until April 22, 2010 to cash the lucky ticket. The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were: 14- 22- 38- 49- 59 and Powerball number 16.
Saturday’s winner was the fourth player in Colorado to win $1 million playing Powerball this year.
In January, the states participating in Powerball changed the rules, so that players who match five numbers and choose Power Play have their winnings multiplied by five. Previously, players who matched five numbers and chose Power Play had their winnings multiplied by whatever Power Play number was selected for that drawing.
In addition to the $1 million winner, Saturday’s drawing also resulted in one $10,000 winner, who matched four numbers plus the Powerball number to earn that prize. Another 25 people won $200 by either matching four numbers and selecting the Power Play option or matching three numbers plus the Powerball number. Because there were no jackpot winners in Saturday’s drawing, the top prize will rise to $41 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
