Business Changes

We're Introducing New Technology
Beginning August 1st, we're introducing our first Scratch game using 2D barcode technology. Our $3 Crossword Deluxe Scratch game will have the new barcode printed under its scratch-off material. From this point forward, all of our new Scratch games will use this new scanning technology that will make the validation process more efficient.

Colorado Lottery will be receiving new scanning equipment beginning in early September with completion scheduled by the first of the new year. The transition should not effect retailers' ability to check your Scratch tickets to determine if they're winners.

What Does This Mean for You?
If you regularly check your Scratch tickets on the self-checker unit that is available in some stores, please follow these instructions:

  • Remove all of the Scratch coating from the play area of the ticket. If there is a barcode under the coating (look to the right of this page for pictures), then you have a ticket with the new 2D barcode.

Using in-store Scratch ticket checkers:

  • If the store has the new bright green ticket checker, scan the 2D barcode. That's it! The unit will let you know if your ticket is a winner or not.
  • If the retailer has a blue ticket checker, scan the barcode on the back of the ticket, on the bottom. Then enter the three-digit code from the front of the ticket. The three-digit code is boxed within a 22-digit series of numbers that is located on the front of the ticket underneath the scratch-off material.

Our Service Commitment to You
The Colorado Lottery is committed to providing you with the best service. It's our hope that providing this new technology to our retail partners will assist them in giving you a better customer experience.
