DENVER, Sept. 16, 2013– The jackpot for Wednesday night's multi-state Powerball drawing increased to $400 million! The winning ticket will be worth an estimated $223.6 million in cash. The highest Powerball jackpot ever was $590.5 million last May.

Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:59 p.m. MST. Powerball is a multi-state game with a starting jackpot of $40 million and other prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million. To play, consumers choose five numbers from 1 to 59 and one Powerball number from 1 to 35. Players that match five numbers and the Powerball win the jackpot. Players can also opt to spend an extra $1 for a Power Play option, which gives players a chance to win $2 million on the match 5 prize and increases the lower-tier prize amounts.
