POWERBALL JACKPOT GROWS TO $250 MILLION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DENVER, November 20, 2012– The jackpot for Wednesday night's multi-state Powerball drawing is up to $250 million! The winning ticket will be worth an estimated $166.8 million in cash.

With theaverage cost of a 10-serving Thanksgiving dinner being $49.48 this year, according to a study by the American Farm Bureau Federation, the winner could buy 5,052,546 Thanksgiving dinners –enough to feed everyone in Colorado, California, Arizona and Wyoming (50,525,460 people).

This is the highest Powerball jackpot since August 15, when the jackpot was $337 million. The highest Powerball jackpot ever was $365 million in 2006.

Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 8:59 p.m. MST. Powerball is a multi-state game with a starting jackpot of $40 million and other prizes ranging from $4 up to $2 million. To play, consumers choose five numbers from 1 to 59 and one Powerball number from 1 to 35. Players that match five numbers and the Powerball win the jackpot. Players can also opt to spend an extra $1 for a Power Play option, which gives players a chance to win $2 million on the match 5 prize and increases the lower-tier prize amounts.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games – Mega Millions, Cash 5, Scratch, Lotto, Raffle and Powerball - stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. The Lottery has returned more than $2.4 billion to the state of Colorado since it was established. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
