POWERBALL JACKPOT SWELLS TO A HUGE AMOUNT

DENVER, Feb.8, 2012– The Powerball jackpot is officially HUGE! Since no one hit the Powerball jackpot in Saturday night’s drawing, the jackpot for tonight’s jackpot is now $250,000,000 with an estimated $156 million in cash! If the jackpot does not get hit tonight, it is estimated to grow to a HUGE $310 million. The last time that the Powerball jackpot was at this level was on November 2, 2011, when a Connecticut player won $254.2 million.

Effective January 15, 2012, the Powerball game, which is played in 44 jurisdictions, underwent a makeover. Tickets for Powerball went from $1 to $2, jackpots now start $40 million instead of $20 million and the overall odds of winning any prize are better too. The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1-in-176 million as opposed to the previous odds of 1-in-196 million. And, the overall odds of winning a prize have improved from 1-in-35 to 1-in-32 and it’s beginning to show. Colorado just awarded its first Powerball with PowerPlay $2 million winner this past week!
