MEGA MILLIONS AND POWERBALL REACH HUGE MEGA JACKPOTS

DENVER, March 25, 2011 – Both of the nation's multistate lottery games, Mega Millions and Powerball, are boasting gigantic jackpots for their drawings being held tonight and tomorrow night.

After 13 straight rollovers starting back on February 1, the Mega Millions top prize is now $312 million for this evening’s drawing. The winning ticket will be worth an estimated $198 million in cash. The game is played in 42 states and the District of Columbia. To get in on the action players should buy their tickets by 7:30 p.m. tonight. If nobody wins tonight’s drawing the jackpot will grow to a massive $418 million ($265.7 million cash).

And, the Powerball game also went without a jackpot winner Wednesday evening, hiking the pot to $125 million ($63.7 million in cash) for tomorrow night’s drawing. The top Powerball prize hasn't been hit since February 26. Powerball is played in 42 States, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Since states began selling both Powerball and Mega Millions in January 2010, over $2.43 billion has been returned to good causes, the games have produced 28 multi-millionaires, $4.52 billion in prizes has been awarded between the two games and the games have had eight jackpots over $200 million, Powerball with five and Mega Millions with three.

Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery’s games – MatchPlay, Mega Millions, Cash 5, Scratch, Lotto and Powerball - stay in Colorado to improve the quality of life in the state. The Lottery has returned more than $2 billion to the state of Colorado since it was established. Through Great Outdoors Colorado, the Conservation Trust Fund and Colorado State Parks, the Lottery has provided funding for new trails, precious open space and wildlife protection.
